Microgrids Provide Sustainable Energy to Power Three Critical Tribal Facilities
Menasha, Wis. – EnTech Solutions, a full-service clean energy solutions provider, and its affiliate Faith Technologies, an energy expert and national leader in electrical planning, engineering, design and installation, have partnered with the Bad River Band of the Lake Superior Tribe of Chippewa Indians to finance, own and operate a resilient, renewable energy solution for three tribal facilities in Odanah, Wisconsin. The project has been named the ‘Ishkonige Nawadide Solar Project’ and implements the first phase to a multiphase long-term strategic energy plan.
With the initial support of grant funds from the U.S. Department of Energy, the Bad River Tribe will benefit from more reliable power at three of their facilities; the Health and Wellness Center, Wastewater Treatment Plant and Administration Building, all of which are relatively remote and susceptible to power outages. The facilities will leverage a combined 500 kilowatts of solar generation and more than 1 megawatt hour of battery storage, equivalent to powering about 330 homes for one hour. Each facility will operate as an individual microgrid that will remain interactive with the utility and integrate with existing reciprocating generators as lower priority resources.
EnTech Solutions will fund the balance of the system and will own and operate it through an Energy Services Agreement with the tribe. “This is a great demonstration of how a private company can provide financing to a clean energy microgrid system for the benefit of a community,” said Charlie Fredrickson, EnTech Solutions vice president of asset management.
“EnTech Solutions is honored to have been selected to support Bad River’s request for more reliable and sustainable energy,” said Dan Nordloh, EnTech Solutions senior vice president and general manager of distributed energy. “The teams from Bad River and EnTech Solutions have created a strong working relationship, enabling the Tribe to complete Phase 1 of a multiphase approach that assists the Tribe towards energy independence and clean energy goals.” We look forward to continuing to support Bad River as their energy needs evolve,” Nordloh stated.
“We are excited to be converting our tribal buildings to a solar and clean energy source, while providing another level of resiliency during utility outages,” said Daniel Wiggins Jr., the Tribal Project Lead with the Mishkiiziibii Natural Resource Department for the Bad River Tribe.
These distributed energy solutions offer the following advantages:
- Improved electric reliability for critical infrastructure
- Improved sustainability of the renewable energy generation
- Advance the tribe’s goals of increased energy independence and reduced tribal energy expense
EnTech Solutions and Faith Technologies partner to provide customers with complete energy solutions including technical expertise and design, assistance in securing funding resources and optimization and maintenance of complex microgrid systems after installation. Together they utilize energy analysis tools to model energy use and deliver a system to optimize resiliency, sustainability and the delivered price of electricity objectives.
